SAVOURY SAUCES: This sauce was standard fare when turkey was served at Xmas times in the UK in the early 60s. It might not be used any more nowadays though.



BREAD SAUCE:

 

 

 

1 small onion, chopped                                              

1 cup soft white bread crumbs

1 cup milk                                                                  

1 piece dry mace, crumbled

salt and pepper to taste

 

 

 

Place onion, milk and mace in a saucepan. Simmer covered until onion is tender. Strain into another saucepan.

 

Stir enough breadcrumbs into the milk to make a fairly thick sauce. Add salt and pepper to taste. Place saucepan over low heat for 10 minutes to heat sauce through.

 

Serve with turkey.
